About Us

Our Mission

Alphabet works to ensure the right to play, live, and learn peacefully for all displaced Syrian children in Lebanon

An entire generation of children is suffering from a lack of education which will affect their futures negatively. We empower them through education so that they may continue their lives on a brighter path instilled with a love of knowledge

Due to the fact it is not allowed to build with concrete and metal scaffolding; all of our schools are built from the ground up using wooden scaffolding and plastic frame covers (large tarps).

About Alphabet

Alphabet Alternative Education began as a project by a group of individuals deeply affected by the lives of the people living in the refugee settlements of the Beqaa Valley. At first, they would gather donations such as clothes, blankets, firewood, and other necessities that were urgently needed. They had an idea of building a large tent which would constantly be heated, open for children to play or rest in whenever they please. This tent would later become the first of 10 Alphabet tent-schools

Alphabet provides free accessible education through a secular, non-politically affiliated curriculum specifically designed for times of crisis to Syrian children deprived of access to schooling in Lebanon . We develop our students' abilities to the appropriate education level for their age and enroll our graduates in formal Lebanese school systems. Parents can benefit from our literacy courses and knitting workshops to secure livelihoods

While education is our main priority Alphabet also has many projects dedicated to easing the hardship of life in the settlements. Our public ovens provide a free meal to each Alphabet student every day and provide each family in its settlement with a daily ration of bread. We fund infrastructure projects so that the settlements may have access to electricity and water

Alphabet tent-schools function as community centers for the settlements they are present. Settlers seek advice from our teachers on topics such as access to social services and health issues. Our teachers hold awareness and enlightenment lectures on topics including child labor and the importance of education, their role in civil society, underage marriage, domestic violence and other important issues refugees face in their daily lives
